How the Standard is governed
A standard is only as credible as the process behind it. This page is that process, published.
The advisory board
The IIAIT Academic Advisory Board reviews every material change to the Standard before it takes effect: new or removed criteria, weight changes, gate designations, and conformance thresholds. The board advises; IIAIT publishes its recommendations and records where the final decision departed from them.
The board is currently being constituted. We publish the charter before the names — in that order deliberately — and we invite nominations, including self-nominations, for the seats below.
Assessment design
Open seatA scholar or practitioner of higher-education assessment, responsible for reviewing Domain B criteria and scoring anchors.
AI in education research
Open seatAn active researcher on AI's role in teaching and learning, responsible for keeping criteria aligned with evidence rather than fashion.
Academic integrity
Open seatAn academic-integrity officer or ombudsperson, responsible for the enforcement-realism and due-process provisions (B.5, F.3).
Institutional leadership
Open seatA serving dean or vice-dean, responsible for keeping the Standard implementable inside real university governance.
Discipline rotation
Open seatA rotating seat held by a professor from a different discipline each term, so no field's assumptions quietly become everyone's rules.
Terms are two years, renewable once. Membership and affiliations will be published here.
Conflict-of-interest policy
- Board members are unpaid for standard-setting work and disclose all affiliations, which are published alongside their names.
- A board member whose own course, department, or institution is under review is recused from any related deliberation.
- Certification decisions are mechanical applications of the published conformance model (IIAIT-S1 §4.4); neither the board nor IIAIT staff can override a gate failure, in either direction.
- IIAIT's revenue comes from certification fees. We consider this a conflict worth naming: the strongest structural safeguard is that the criteria, thresholds, and every certificate's version binding are public, so leniency would be visible.
Revocation policy
A certificate may be revoked before its expiry on any of the following grounds:
- Misrepresentation: the syllabus in use materially differs from the certified document, or the certificate is presented as governmental accreditation or a quality guarantee it is not.
- Payment reversal: refund or chargeback of the certification fee.
- Misuse of the mark: use of the IIAIT badge on non-certified courses or materials.
Revoked certificates are unlisted from the directory and their verification pages show the revocation. Revocation is recorded with its ground and date; the holder is notified and may appeal.
Complaints and appeals
Anyone — a certificate holder, a student, an institution — may dispute a certification outcome, a directory listing, or a revocation. Write to governance@iiait.org. We acknowledge within five working days; a decision, with reasons, follows within thirty. Appeals of certification decisions are reviewed against the pinned Standard version, never a later one.
